American Idol 10: The Top 12 Ladies Performance Reviews and Ranking

So yesterday I found out that QTV was not showing the Top 12 Guys on Wednesday night - they showed it instead on Thursday at 2PM. I missed it. Boo! I guess you'll have to look elsewhere for reviews on them haha. I'll try to watch that episode some other time.

But here are my reviews and ranking of the American Idol 10: Top 12 Ladies...

Judging the Judges

"They have to sing like it's their encore song..." - Steven Tyler

Before we get to the reviews of the contestants, let's review the performance of the judges.

Surprisingly, I found myself thinking more and more like Randy Jackson. I wonder if someone (Nigel) was feeding him his reviews hahaha! (*evil thought*). But Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are just soooo easy to please, ugh.

The Top 12 Girls Performance Reviews

Here are my reviews of the performances of the American Idol Season 10 Top 12 Ladies, these reviews are written as I watched the show!

Girls are allowed to choose whatever song they want in this episode, so it not just shows their talent, it also shows how good their judgment is. This should show how good these contestants know their own voices. That is not always easy.

  • First up was Tatynisa Wilson who sang Rihanna's "Only Girl in the World" - In an attempt to sound current, I suppose. "Only girl in the woooorld... girl in the wooooorld!" she was singing the sustained notes sharp (higher than it was supposed to be)! She looked pretty in that dress though, but not edgy enough for that song...
  • Naima Adedapo always wear these awesome dresses, tonight was no exception. She sang "Summertime" in a new fresh interesting way, dancing all around the stage - the complete opposite of  Fantasia's version. Good call. There was no comparing the two because they were completely different! I ranked her #1 in my Top 12 predictions last week, and I'm glad she did well with her song. Very reminiscent of Amy Winehouse, don't you think?
  • Next up was Kendra Chantelle Campbell showcased her voice and showed that she CAN sing, and she can hit those big notes. She could sell her sexiness a bit more, that should make her stand out from the Top 12. I don't mean wear skimpy clothes, but to choose songs that are sexier.
  • I had high expectations of Rachel Zevita because I knew from the auditions that she could really sing. She fell flat to me, old fashioned, and boring - the most exciting thing she did was her throwing the mic stand down. :p
  • The Latin beauty that is Karen Rodriguez sang... Hero? Whoa! In Espagnol! Whoa! She was doing fine until she hit the meat of the song - where she paled in comparison to Mariah Carey. Well. She was all over the place, not hitting the right notes. :/ But she did make a good call in appealing to the Latin-American demographic. Way to go. ;)
  • We were seeing Lauren Turner for the first or second time in this competition, and I'm kinda unsure about her. She took so long before she hit that big ending, and before she did I was already err... What I think she should do is prove that she can sing first. Sing a great big song that showcases her talent
  • Ashthon Jones, oh yeah, her! The one who sang Effie White's "And I am Telling You" when she's more kinda like Deena Jones. Oh lady, I was bored with her song, I'm sorry. She should choose maybe a Diana Ross song next week, if she's still here!
  • Julie Zorrilla, I ranked 3rd last week - chose a Kelly Clarkson song - then sang the chorus flat (lower that it's supposed to be sung) and then over-sang the rest. She wore a pretty dress, but her hair looked so pageantry. Oh no, she's dropping to the bottom of my list. :(
  • Haley Reinhart's voice is too small for that song. :( Then she continued to mumble her words. I wish she would enunciate her words a little bit more. WHY do these contestants think the more notes they can sing in one line, the better they sound? Geez. Oh, and I can't believe I'm agreeing with Randy Jackson more and more. Hahaha!
  • After the break, it was 15yo Thia Megia who sang "Out Here on My Own" - oh dear. She did the dramatic acapella in the beginning then was accompanied just by a piano. She did pretty good with it. She's seeming kind of shy, not the confident girl we saw earlier. Make sure you stand out Thia. And watch out when you hit those high notes - attack it from the top, not the bottom. Take a good breath before you hit it, because sometimes you hit it just below the note and then you pull it up. You should always hit it right on the head. Ok?
  • Lauren Alaina sang "Turn on the Radio" (I'm guessing the title here), and she did a pretty good job with it. I think she's kind of redeemed for me by her performance. But then she did that whole peaches thing with Ryan Seacrest, and I'm like, what? Ugh.
  • Last but not the least, it's Pia Toscano, closed the show with "I'll Stand By You" and turned it into a smoking hot ballad with a big ending. Hahaha. Surprisingly, it works. This is what they should all have done - showed American that they were in the Top 12 because THEY CAN SING.
