Blown away by Clean Energy: Bangui Windmills

A Theme Thursday post.
Bangui Wind Farm in Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

On the way to the Pagudpud Beach, north of the Philippines, we stopped by to take photos of the Bangui Wind Farm. The sun was about to set so we had to hurry to catch the last sliver of light. We were just in time. :D

According to WikiPilipinas, the Bangui Windmills are located in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. It was a project by the NorthWind Development Corporation as a renewable energy source and ...to help reduce the greenhouse gases that cause global warming. The project is the first “Wind Farm” in the Philippines consisting of wind turbines on-shore facing the South China Sea and considered to be the biggest in Southeast Asia. This clean energy source provides 40% of the power requirements of the whole Ilocos Norte province.

Personally, I was just blown away by how clean energy could be so cool. ;)

This photo of me and my dad, actually won for me a feature at our monthly e-Newletter sent to all sites in the world. :D

  6. I love wind turbines. Most of them are from Denmark - makes them even more cool, of course!

  7. Lovely photos, Reyjr. I do love wind farms - both the mysterious, huge presence of the structures, like gigantic guardians of the landscape, and the slow, careful movement of the vanes themselves.

Congratulations on your feature. You deserved it.

  8. Nice shots Reyjr! We dont seem to have many here but travelling inland not so long ago, there's a whole bank of the things on the way into Canberra. Someone told me they're quite noisy?

Cool indeed. My sister in law, Maria, is from the Philippines! My brother and Maria just returned from a family reunion. The stories they have of your country make me want to jump on plane and visit. I just have to convince Mr. Jackson that he can handle the length of the plane ride;-0). I am going to email your blog to Maria and Frank. I am certain that they will love reading more..best c

    @ Sandra Leigh - I agree, they're so mysterious like they're alien!

@ Baino - Hmm. I would think they are noisy. but they're meant to be in places that are really windy, so windy=noisy. i don't think it will matter! hehe!

(in short, no comment).

  24. we have had a big debate recently in West Yorkshire about Wind power .I always think they look great.yet a lot of local folk dislike them because they Change The Landscape.I think they look beautiful myself. The benifits outweigh any possible disadvantages for me.

  25. @ Collete - it's very cool indeed! :D

@ Deedee - what can I say, we're a good looking family. hahaha! just kidding!

    @ Cuppa Jo - :D Thanks!

@ Michael - Thank you! It was great timing is all it was. :D

@ tony - I agree, the long term benefits will greatly outweight the "change in landscape". And I should add, they said the same thing about the Golden Gate Bridge. :D
