Homework: English to Batangueño translations

Translating from English to Tagalog to Batangueno. Wow. I'm such an expert. Not! Why not give it a go yourself?

Kids, do your own Homework

Humor me, I say.

Laiya Beach, Batangas
Several weeks ago, I found a comment on my CBox from Jasmin, a student from Davao, and she was asking if I could translate some English sentences into Batangueno for her. She obviously did not read my profile page. Heh heh heh.

Friends, I am not Batangueno (although at this rate, I may very well become one lol). No offense to my kabareks - I think Batanguenos are a great people. Very strong and solid, a brave and assertive bunch. I love kapeng Barako, but I'm still looking for a genuine local place around here where I can buy some - recommend a place to me!

In the interest of nationalism, I prefer to refer to Batangueños as "Filipinos in Batangas" and say "Batangueño" to mean the dialect they speak around here. And for the record, I have, not once, heard anyone here say "Ala-eh!"

Batangueño, the dialect

They're not much different, Tagalog and Batangueño, so answering Jasmin's homework (which is probably long overdue now if she hasn't submitted it yet, lol) is more like translating English to Filipino. :p

Her translations requests:

Welcome to our place - "Tuloy ka, upo ka ga."
My name is Jasmin - "Ang pangalan ko ay Jasmin.
What is your name? - "Ikaw ga, ano gang ngalan mo?"
Thank you very much. - "Maraming salamat ha."
You're Welcome. - "Walang anuman."
Hello, How are you? - "Kumusta ka ga?"
Let's be friends. - "Tayong bumarek!" (lol)
Visit our place again. - "Balik kayo rine!"
Hope you enjoy. - "Kayo sana ay masiya-han"
Enjoy our food. - "Masarap ya-an!"
I'll meet you soon. - "Kita tayong muli!"

Hohum.

Always give more than just the requirement

And so because one of my personal mottos (lol) is to always give more than what is required, I give you more Batangueno words and phrases. "Manawa ikaw!" (Take your fill!)

She slipped and rolled  - "Ay! Nagdagasa sya!"
He fell flat on her face - "Ay! Nagsungasub sya!"
Dude, just let it be - "Yae na, pare!"
Oh well... - "Ay sya!"
Why did the chicken cross the road? - "Bakit lumiban ang manok sa kabilang kalsada."
He's absent today. - "Liban sya ngay-on."
There's so many ants here! - "Daming guyam!"
I'm flying a kite - "Nagpapalipad ng papagayo."
It smells like feet. - "Ay, amoy pa-a dine!"
Need to clean, my room is so dusty! - "Kailangan ko gang magpispis ng gabok, ka-dumi na ng kwarto ko!"

How Batangueño are You?

(sorry, this part is just Batangueno or Batangan to Tagalog, lol, no English translations - they're just too many!)

My challenge for you is to CHOOSE A BATANGAN WORD and USE IT IN A SENTENCE in the comments section below. :D Enjoy!

Example:
"Si Lorenzo laging nakatitig sa bubog!" (Lorenzo is always staring at the mirror!)

  1. HI! I'm a Batangueno .. Words from batangas are almost like ng common tagalog. Ung ibang terms lng dito sa batangas gaya ng "mabanas" eh iba ang meaning sa manila .. "nakakabanas" sa manila which means "galit/nakakagalit".

medyo malalalim lng ang terms dito sa batangas .. pero madali nmn intindihin .. basta maalam ka mag-tagalog eh madali mong mahahalata kung batangenyo ba ang kausap mo.

    Ex of batangueno terms:

Bulos - another round of rice.
    parne - halika
utoy - totoy /batang lalaki uhigin pa , supot pa at di pa tuli
    hikap - gumala
