Random: I've been on vacation mode since last week

Vacation Mode
I cannot for the respect of everything corporate continue like this...
Sure I have completed some tasks...
Sure I replied to some emails...
Sure I have not wasted my manhours on nothing...
Sure I'm still net positive on output vs input (haha, whatever)...

But damn, dude, my brain is already at the beach, receiving a relaxing massage by the shore, listening to the waves and soaking up the sun. My brain has been, since last week, off to Boracay or Puerto Galera or Palawan, begging my body to go and book a flight already! Please please please...

So I went and finalized a trip to Puerto Galera Beach in Mindoro this coming Labor Day long weekend! ...Excited much? I'll bring back photos. Haha.
Don't know yet where we will be staying, but I'm looking forward to relaxing and partying, maybe play with some fishies, go snorkeling, go dancing, swimming, whopee!

Vulcanized
I accompanied a friend of mine to a vulcanizing shop to take a nail out of his tire. Turns out he had 2 tires that had nails in 'em, for a grand total of 4 holes. lol. He's been driving around with 4 freakin' holes in his tires. :p

While we're on the topic, I think vulcanizing shop mechanics are terribly underpaid.

10,000 blog hits!
I do believe I am semi-obsessive.
How many times do you check your blog daily just to see if someone left a comment? :p
Do you keep an excel spreadsheet of your daily blog hits? (By the way, I'm approaching 10,000 hits on this blog, and expecting it to reach 10k within the week! 10,000 hits, and MORE THAN HALF of that was just in the last 4 months!)

I just restarted blogging in January of this year, and from an average of 3 hits per day last year, I'm now up to 80+ hits per day. I know that's not a lot yet, but hey! Thanks to all the visitors.

OK, all for now. Off to dinner.

Sleep All Day

I got my new queen size mattress yesterday! Thanks to my dad for getting me one. Haha. I went from single bed to queen size bed! It's great!

This morning, I was stretching on my new bed, testing the expanse, reaching for the edges. It was so good I wanted to sleep all day. Haha. (And I was actually late for work because of it!) I'm excited to buy new bedsheets. :D

sleep all day - jason mraz

His after moan though cries oh no
Hes building up a shine but he take it slow
And he knows it time to make a change here and time to get away
And he knows its time for all the wrong reasons and time to end the pain
But he sleep all, sleep all day, sleep all, we sleep all day over again
Why dont we?

She said what would your mother think and how would your father react oh lord
Would he take it all back what theyve done
No way he said take it, take it and dont break it with your own two hands
That was my old man and he said
If all is grounded you should go make a mountain out of it

Oh what a lovely day to have a slice of humble pie
Recalling of the while we used to drive and drive here and there
Going nowhere but for us, nowhere but for the two of us
And we knew it was time to take a chance here
And time to compromise our lives for awhile
And it was time for all the wrong reasons
But time is often on my side and I give it to you tonight
And we sleep all, sleep all day, sleep all, we sleep all day over again

As time goes by we get a little bit tired waking and baked another marlboro mile wide
Its sending the boys on the run in the time in hot summer sun
To swim beneath or over outside as theyre reading between the lines
Then they remember the part in the hallmark card where they read about the dreams
And reaching for the stars to hold on a little bit closer to
And they knew it was time, time to take a chance here
Time to compromise our little lives for just a little while
And they knew it was time for all the wrong reasons
As time is often on my side and I give it to you, oh boy
And we sleep all, sleep all day, sleep all, we sleep all day over again

She said what would your mother think and how would your father react oh lord
Would he take it all back what they've done
No way he said take it, take it and dont break it with your own two hands
That was my old man and he said
If all is grounded you should go make a mountain out of it

I got my weekend back

I was on leave from shutdown duty yesterday! And from the looks of things, my weekends will be back for good... well, until the next shutdown. I needed the break badly, and the 2 hour trip to Manila was so worth it. My gf told me I was even talking in my sleep about work!

I had planned to sleep until late morning, but I woke up at 7am and couldn't go back to sleep anymore. I got a haircut. I took my car to the vulcanizing shop where they took a screw out of my left rear tire. I watched "21" on DVD (it was okay, except for the weird ending). Had too much to eat (veggies!). Had 3 cups of coffee. And spent quality time with my gf and my family...

On Tuesday, March 10, it will be the 27th anniversary of the most amazing planetary alignment in recorded history.

"On March 10 their apparent positions, as seen from the Sun, will be closer together than at any time in the last 179 years..."

Then on the midnight of the 11th, it will be my 27th birthday. :p

I'm off to Baguio on the 12th to the 14th with Liz! Who wants to go? I have 1 more spare room, good for 2 people. Let me know ASAP!

I want my weekends back

It's my first time to be a Maintenance Shutdown Coordinator.

It has been 30 days since I left home.

And I've taken a total of 1 vacations. :p

My daily grind...
Wake up at 0530H (shit, i find it hard to wake up at 630 on normal days...)
Attend Handover meeting at 0600H (at least there's free pandesal and coffee)
Update tracking and organize activities for the day (mostly office work)
Walk/Bike around the plant and coordinate inspection activities (via a 2-way radio)
Attend daily Coordination meeting at 0930H and send out meeting minutes
Continue field work until lunch break at 1130H (then drink some more coffee)
Back to work at 1300H
Field work under the scorching heat of the sun (ouch)
Get sunburnt. (more and more each day)
Coordinate field activities until 1800H (to the last minute!)
Attend handover to night shift meeting at 1800H
And every other day, be the meeting scribe and stay until minutes are reviewed and sent out (sometimes until around 2030H)
Go home and shower to remove the sweat and dirt from the day's work
Dinner at around 2130H (and this is why I'm gaining weight instead of losing weight)
Go home to sleep by 2300H (no late nights!)

I have been counting the days, the hours, until I can have my weekends back.
I am optimistic that this coming Saturday will be mine. ALL MINE.
Finally...

update*
They just lit up the flare. :D
Hopefully tomorrow, the flare will bring new energy to all the workers (including myself) to get this whole thing done. It's been a looong road, but the end is near.

yay!

It's Ash Wednesday

When I was 13, I joined a TV quiz show representing my school. One of the questions were: What is the first day of Lent?

...I didn't know. :p
We lost but what the heck. I was 13 and I was on TV. lol.

Some funny things at the Ash Wednesday mass I attended over lunch break at work.

- When everybody stood up, there was this 6 foot tall intern standing in front of a lady colleague who was less than 5 feet tall. Poor lady couldn't see the priest!

- After we were all given ash crosses on our foreheads, a male colleague took out his handkerchief and began wiping his face and forehead, then suddenly exclaimed, "Ay! Nabura ko!(I erased it!)" hahaha...

- Then the Shutdown meeting snack later that day was siopao. (Bread with pork inside).(Note: Abstaining from pork during Lent is a Catholic practice.. in case you didn't get why it was funny! :p)

On a totally unrelated topic, here a creepy photo of the moon I took a couple of weeks ago when it was full...(click to enlarge)

Obama, Dureza, AI, and the end of my 11-day Holiday

Obama will be US President on January 20, 2009. The question now becomes: can he live up to all the hype? I sure hope so.

But in any case, we Filipinos shouldn't worry. Sec. Dureza says, we are, along with China, the 2 most resilient economies in the East. I suppose it's just a fluke that the equity funds I own are now almost half the value. Hehehe...

AI is coming too! That's American Idol. On the 15th! (Or is the 16th?) And again, I'll be hawking away at youtube, trying to find the clips before it gets taken down.

My 11-day vacation is over.
It was actually too long I almost forgot I even work. Haha.

My family & I, with my lola, my gf and my sister's bf, drove 2 cars up north to the white sandy beaches of Pagudpud. We were not disappointed, the beach was great! We had so much fun "fighting" the waves and losing, and rolling around on the sand. Haha.

We also took photos of the windmills. Awesome clean energy!
We had lunch at Vigan. Passed the Patapat Bridge. Jumped off the northernmost tip of Luzon. (Don't worry, I'll post pictures of this!) And visited relatives in Cagayan.

Kudos! NLEX and SCTEX rock! lol.

It's great to spend time with your loved ones. :D I highly recommend it.

Seeing Stars

____________________________________________

A couple of weeks ago, I had my eyes checked. Turns out, the contacts and the glasses I am using now are already obsolete for my requirements.

So I bought new contact lenses (which cost a fortune) and tried them out last Saturday.

That evening I went out to the balcony to look at the stars.
For the last few years, when I looked at the stars I saw them as blobs of overlapping double images. They didn't even twinkle.

But that night, I saw them again. For the first time in a long time. As stars, and not as blobs of white.

And then at that moment, it was worth every centavo.

I just feel like typing today

I have tons of work to do ... but I just feel like typing today (tonight, to be exact).

"Hey hey hey, are you OK?"
I am now a certified First Aider! I'm hoping I never get to use my new skills, but knowing that you know how to save someone's life is kinda cool. I can imagine how doctors must feel. Hehehe...

I'm off to Singapore (agen) next week for a few days. I'm attending a workshop this time around. Whoever is there, buy me some coffee aight. :D I'm leaving on Wednesday from the Centennial Airport (Terminal 2, the nicer airport). I'll be back in Maynila on Sunday next week. Oh, and I read somewhere that the NAIA 3 Terminal is now open (finally!).

They've formed a choir here in Shell Tabangao, and I'm one of the singers of course. Our conductor is a former Madz who took up Choral Conducting in the UPCMu.

It's a HOLIDAY on MONDAY! yay!

Random: Balong Malalim, Blood and Batangas

This, of course, is in reverse...
  • MONDAY - I went to the clinic today to get a sliver out of my right thumb and get a flu vaccine. The former hurt more coz the nurse had to really dig for it under the skin with a needle. And yes, there was blood.
  • SUNDAY - Still On duty in Batangas. Liz has been here since Friday night. Thank God. I had an odd feeling I would go crazy if I was alone that weekend. Blah.
  • SATURDAY - My Tatay & my baby sis came back from US of A today. But I can't pick them up from the airport coz imma stuck in Batangas. // Do you know that song: "Gusto kong mag-swimming! Sa balong malalim!"? It's an oldie rock and roll song from Juan dela Cruz. It was awesome, I got to sing it for a Shell event. And even though it felt really weird, posing as a rakista and not being very convincing, I still enjoyed it. haha! Missing singing. We also did "Shadows grow so long (before my eyes!)" and "Surroundings (aka Kapaligiran)".
Gusto pang kumain! Kumain ng kumain! Di naman nabubusog sa kanyang kinain!
  • FRIDAY - I thought I had seen the last of this RCA. Oh was I ever wrong...
Other random thoughts:
  1. It's freakin raining again?!?!?
  2. My thumb hurts. And I have scratched all over my arms and legs. I'm never gardening again.
  3. David Cook won AI7 last week. And now he has 11 songs in the Billiboard Hot 100! Holy crup!
  4. Hot and Spicy Nagaraya. Yum. What's for dinner. I'm hungry!!!
  5. Who cares?

Of spiders, cars & choirs, and being a lazy blogger

Crap.

I've been going through some of my friends' blogs and, not surprisingly, they have been updating regularly for the past few weeks...gah... and I haven't.

I had actually planned to blog about the giant (giant!) spider I confronted (and eventually vanquished!) in my bathroom in Batangas on that fateful night when I arrived late and tired...

I was also going to blog about my new car (MY new car! still brings a smile to my face to say that! haha!) which I picked up from Honda just last week. It's a 2007 Honda Civic 1.8 S Automatic. I hope the license plate will arrive by Christmas (please make it my Christmas gift!) so I can drive it to Batangas on the 26th...

I also wanted to blog about the UPCC, some exciting news about a Switzerland tour and a competition, American shows putting choirs on the forefront and into the mainstream (google Clash of the Choirs and MTV Show Choir), and some less than exciting news about losing momentum and losing members...

Of course I also wanted to blog a Christmas wishlist (a 2-seater reading couch please :D)...
...and about our visit to Eastridge to visit our future resthouse...
...and about my horrendous 5-hour trip to Batangas...
...and about my first visit to Lola Oreng's grave...
...and so many other things.

I want to blog, but...
...sigh...

maybe later.

News Bits Tidbits

One of the benefits of having Broadband at home is I get read the news before I go to bed. I'm not quite in the mood to talk about ZTE and GMA and ERAP and Clinton-Obama right now, so I'll just mention some newsbits that caught my eye in the past couple of weeks...

  • I'm sure you heard about Britney Spear's tragic excuse for a performance at the recent MTV VMA's. I honestly was looking forward to it, I suppose a lot of us are really suckers for Happy Endings, but then watching here walk around the stage (almost) dancing was just blah and blah. She could have done better to say the least. Haha. But check again. Her song "Gimme More" is #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #1 on the Hot Digital Songs.

  • And that Chris Crocker guy who was on YouTube crying over the whole Britney thing, and how almost every newspaper in the world featured her (horrible) comeback. I saw an article saying how amazing it was that you can have a nervous breakdown and the whole world can watch it. Haha. Seriously, I think people obsessed with celebrities are really creepy...

  • And did you hear about Christian Bautista's Lupang Hinirang blooper?

"...Lupa ng araw ng luwalhati't pagsinta, ang mamatay ng dahil sa'yo!"

Dumbass. 'Nuff said. Haha!

  • How about that racial slur against Philippine Medical Schools on Desperate Housewives? Where Teri Hatcher's character says "Before we go on, I think I wanna see his diplomas to check that they're not from some medical school in the Philippines!" (or something like that). I mean c'mon. That was really irresponsible of the writers. It's a reputation issue. Doctors who received their degree in a Philippine medical school is just as competent as any other doctor from any medical school in the United States. That comment was uncalled for.
