Theme Thursday: Earth!

This is a blast from the past for me, from my childhood (which, come to think of it, is now quite distant...) watching cartoons on television. One particular cartoons series I enjoyed was Captain Planet and the Planeteers. This week's theme reminded me of it because it's always the first element they shout. I actually know this next one by heart...

Kwame: ...Then let our powers combine! EARTH!
Wheeler: FIRE!
Linka: WIND!
Gi: WATER!
Mati: HEART!
Captain Planet: By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!
All: Go Planet!
*Song - Captain Planet, he's our hero! Gonna take pollution down to zero...

- then I don't know anymore. Haha!
This video, I conveniently found on YouTube, the intro to Captain Planet's first episode:

I really enjoyed this series because aside from the entertaining action sequences (hehe) they also have tips on how to save the earth at the end. I think this is really helpful in making children aware of how pollution affects the world.

This is one of my favorite cartoons from the 80's. But just to reminisce, my other favorite cartoons then were Transformers, Voltes V, Daimos, Thundercats, He-man and the Masters of the Universe, Care Bears (stare!), Visionaries (this one is my favorite!), King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table, Thundercats, and so many others! Haha...

What was YOUR favorite cartoon series?

  6. Ha! I remember them although not a great cartoon fan. Love the Transformer movies though. Not a bad take on an earthy subject! Just don't tell me you were a Power Rangers fan?

  7. I think Rocky and Bullwinkle were probably the most whimsical cartoon I watched. I can't remember them saving the plantet, maybe Sherman and Mr. Peabody did - I can't remember

syzygy - I looked it up so I know what it means now. Cool.

Your stuff's interesting. and you are well traveled too.

  8. LOL,nice one ;)
I remember them just a bit.
    I was definitely "Saint Seiya"!
As I was in love with men with long hair,I like the Dragon, lol. To protect Athena,I liked the part when they all go in each house with the gold zodiac fighters. As i liked "bad guys" in movies,I remember i liked the phoenix too,but not his brother,he was always crying, lol.

Ironically enough,I have watched "Candy Candy",yeah, but I hated her cause she was always crying(and making my life an hell at school, lol)and because she wasn't chosing the guy with long hair(what was his name?)instead she chose that blond thingy. And boy,she was long to chose!lol.
If I was her,i would have dyed my hair in brown(definitely changed my clothe style),punched that evil girl who was always made her cry and then pushed her from a hill and ran away with that guy with long hair on a motorbike!Lol.
    :D

  9. Sadly, and most embarrassingly, Scooby Doo and The Flintstones...

  10. Great post. Didn't watch Captain Planet myself, more of a 70s/early 80s kid.

Loved all the Saturday morning stuff, there was so much to watch and we just had three channels! hahaha

Scooby-Doo was always a favorite, though.

  13. We did not really spend much time watching cartoons per se, but we had the Jetson's, Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Flintstones, all the looney toones. We mostly just played outside and did not spend a lot of time watching TV. My girls useds to love He Man and the Transformers, so I used to watch a lot of those cartoons. Now the grandkids watch the Disney channel.

Although I did watch adult swim for a while. I watched every episode of Full Metal Alchemist, so does that count, even if I was an adult. I hated it when that show ended. I would still be watching it today if they had not ended it. So many people were upset when that show ended.

    Enjoyed the video clip.
    God bless.

Leah: I loved the Flinstones too but enjoyed the Jetsons more! Must've been the beginnings of my Engineering tendencies. ha!

    Willow: Yes! Mighty Mouse! :D

Mrsupole: Haha! I think I'm around the same age as your daughters!

DineometerDeb: Might be! This was in the late 80's i think.

  22. It has been so long...but I think Flintstones were a hoot and the cartoon Abbott and Costello.

One that really got on my nerves was that Roadrunner and Wiley E. Coyote...that smug bastard bird...beep beep after poor Wiley E. poured his life's blood into all his schemes!

  23. Dakota Bear: it was! and educational too. :D

lettuce: you, and about 80% of the Theme Thursday group. haha! (btw i'm not THAT young... 27!)

Colette Amelia: Haha! We always found that sound that the coyote makes when he falls off a cliff really hilarious!
