Theme Thursday: Earth!

This is a blast from the past for me, from my childhood (which, come to think of it, is now quite distant...) watching cartoons on television. One particular cartoons series I enjoyed was Captain Planet and the Planeteers. This week's theme reminded me of it because it's always the first element they shout. I actually know this next one by heart...

Kwame: ...Then let our powers combine! EARTH!
Wheeler: FIRE!
Linka: WIND!
Mati: HEART!
Captain Planet: By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!
All: Go Planet!
*Song - Captain Planet, he's our hero! Gonna take pollution down to zero...

- then I don't know anymore. Haha!
This video, I conveniently found on YouTube, the intro to Captain Planet's first episode:

I really enjoyed this series because aside from the entertaining action sequences (hehe) they also have tips on how to save the earth at the end. I think this is really helpful in making children aware of how pollution affects the world.

This is one of my favorite cartoons from the 80's. But just to reminisce, my other favorite cartoons then were Transformers, Voltes V, Daimos, Thundercats, He-man and the Masters of the Universe, Care Bears (stare!), Visionaries (this one is my favorite!), King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table, Thundercats, and so many others! Haha...

What was YOUR favorite cartoon series?

  1. nice play. early bird gets the worm, or maybe more commments. lol. love cartoons. Thundarr the Barbarian, GI Joe, Batman...yeah I was into them and enjoy reminiscing with my kids as many are on DVD now.

  2. ugh, my kids watched some of these...don't remind me.
I go back a little Bulwinkle and Loony Tunes...

  3. I was addicted to that show as well... And I know the lyrics... lolz.. but I preferred Dino Riders and Visionaries when I was a kid.

  4. THUNDERCATS ARE Go0000000000000.......

  5. RE:
yung isang malaking parte ng % ay depende sa "judges" at hindi lang sa boto. kaya pwede ka pa rin manalo arzy. basta gawa ka lang ng magagandang posts! :D Good luck sa'tin!

    totoo po ba to?
    i dont think so..
kase minsan, ayon sa aking obserbasyon, nadadaan din to sa palakasan... kung sinu yung ma-epal, palaging dumadalaw... yun ang nakakakuha ng simpatya... hindi lang sa ganda ng post o anu pa man...

  6. Ha! I remember them although not a great cartoon fan. Love the Transformer movies though. Not a bad take on an earthy subject! Just don't tell me you were a Power Rangers fan?

  7. I think Rocky and Bullwinkle were probably the most whimsical cartoon I watched. I can't remember them saving the plantet, maybe Sherman and Mr. Peabody did - I can't remember

syzygy - I looked it up so I know what it means now. Cool.

Your stuff's interesting. and you are well traveled too.

  8. LOL,nice one ;)
I remember them just a bit.
    I was definitely "Saint Seiya"!
As I was in love with men with long hair,I like the Dragon, lol. To protect Athena,I liked the part when they all go in each house with the gold zodiac fighters. As i liked "bad guys" in movies,I remember i liked the phoenix too,but not his brother,he was always crying, lol.

Ironically enough,I have watched "Candy Candy",yeah, but I hated her cause she was always crying(and making my life an hell at school, lol)and because she wasn't chosing the guy with long hair(what was his name?)instead she chose that blond thingy. And boy,she was long to chose!lol.
If I was her,i would have dyed my hair in brown(definitely changed my clothe style),punched that evil girl who was always made her cry and then pushed her from a hill and ran away with that guy with long hair on a motorbike!Lol.

  9. Sadly, and most embarrassingly, Scooby Doo and The Flintstones...

I like to think I have more sophisticated tastes now.

    Such a fun post!

  10. Great post. Didn't watch Captain Planet myself, more of a 70s/early 80s kid.

Loved all the Saturday morning stuff, there was so much to watch and we just had three channels! hahaha

Scooby-Doo was always a favorite, though.

  11. Thanks...I did not know of Captain Planet. He looks very powerful to me. Loved the Anime clip.

  12. I liked Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Flintstones and Mighty Mouse. I go farther back in time than you! :D

  13. We did not really spend much time watching cartoons per se, but we had the Jetson's, Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Flintstones, all the looney toones. We mostly just played outside and did not spend a lot of time watching TV. My girls useds to love He Man and the Transformers, so I used to watch a lot of those cartoons. Now the grandkids watch the Disney channel.

Although I did watch adult swim for a while. I watched every episode of Full Metal Alchemist, so does that count, even if I was an adult. I hated it when that show ended. I would still be watching it today if they had not ended it. So many people were upset when that show ended.

    Enjoyed the video clip.
    God bless.

  14. Hm. I dont remember Captain Planet. Must be a newer one than when I was a kid.

  15. Hi! Reyjr,
Reyjr said, "Did you hate it? Did you like it? Tell me what you think." I liked it! Thanks, for sharing! excellant
choice for a Thursday Theme...since this cartoon provided the viewers with information on how to "save the earth"(planet) too!

    Deedee ;-D

  16. Casper the Friendly Ghost was my fav as a kid.

Great blog you got here. Really, really well done.

  17. naalala ko tuloy yung Captain planet

  18. Well, I loved the Smurfs, Legion of Superheroes, and Scooby-Doo. Great spin on TT.

  19. Brian: I had GI toys too when i was a little boy, but Thundarr the Barbarian I have not heard of. lol!

Tom: wow, am I really the only 20 something on Theme Thursday? :p Looney Tunes!

gillboard: haha! Visionaries is my favorite too!

Tony: yeah! and I hear they're making a movie for Thundercats!

Baino: lol. Power Rangers was AFTER my childhood. :p

The Clever Pup: I've never seen an episode of those, but I'm sure they were lots of fun too like all cartoons are!

Candie: you like Candy Candy what a coincidence! lol! my sister used to have this pencil case of Candy Candy. Haha!

Leah: I loved the Flinstones too but enjoyed the Jetsons more! Must've been the beginnings of my Engineering tendencies. ha!

Wings: I kind of hated Scooby Doo coz he was such a scaredy dog. :p haha!

Ronda: He is powerful! But he needs to "recharge" after he's exposed to too much pollution!

    Willow: Yes! Mighty Mouse! :D

Mrsupole: Haha! I think I'm around the same age as your daughters!

DineometerDeb: Might be! This was in the late 80's i think.

Deedee: Yes, green is in! This cartoon is more relevant now actually, they should bring it back!

Gary: Casper the friendly ghost. ;D Thanks for the compliment Gary!

deejayz: haha! oo nga eh, nakakatuwa no?

    Michael: What's up, doc?

Liza: Smurfs! Haha. Yes yes i enjoyed that too!

  20. I don't know this cartoon series and I don't believe my children saw it. But, it looks like it might have been interesting.

  21. Care bears?
    oh dear. :o/

one of my faves was the Wacky Races - but then, I think I'm rather older than you.....

  22. It has been so long...but I think Flintstones were a hoot and the cartoon Abbott and Costello.

One that really got on my nerves was that Roadrunner and Wiley E. Coyote...that smug bastard bird...beep beep after poor Wiley E. poured his life's blood into all his schemes!

  23. Dakota Bear: it was! and educational too. :D

lettuce: you, and about 80% of the Theme Thursday group. haha! (btw i'm not THAT young... 27!)

Colette Amelia: Haha! We always found that sound that the coyote makes when he falls off a cliff really hilarious!
