"Earning 10 in 2010" - March Online Earnings update!

Happy Easter! My monthly post about my Online Earnings was delayed because I was on vacation for the Holy Week. It was 4 vacation days well spent with my loved ones. Now, back to what you came here to read about!

October 2008 to March 2010 Online Earnings
Oops! I did it again. I exceeded by $10 a month goal for March! I earned a total of $15.02 for the month despite the lack of sponsored posts from Sponsored Reviews and an overdue unpaid post from Blogsvertise. Whoops. Read on...

Break it down!

Will no longer mention the sites that did not earn me anything this month! :p

Google Adsense - Thanks to Manny Pacquiao (lol!), my Adsense earnings this month was the highest I've ever gotten.  I raked up about $9.60 this month, not bad methinks! I can only imagine how some folks would prepare really well in order to capture this surge of searches and Twitter clicks coming from huge media events such as a boxing match. I hear those who use SEO opimization and multiple blogs can earn as much as $200 is one hour from events like this. Whoa...

Nuffnang.com.ph - Php34.69 or about $0.72 only. Notice that sometimes Nuffnang ads are visible and sometimes they're not? I'm not sure about the configuration they have in showing ads, if it is time based or trend-based, but one possible improvement would be to make sure ads are always shown during anticipated high blog traffic events like the Pacquiao match. :p

Sponsored Tweets - Paling in comparison to my previous month's revenue from Sponsored Tweets, I only earned $3.10 this month. They have launched their own link shortener which I noticed generated less clicks than bit.ly - which meant less revenues for them, and less opps for me. Boo...

I was pleasantly surprised, though that one of my referrals had already begun earning from Sponsored Tweets. Way to go!

Adgitize - Earning from this service is based on how hard you work for it. I would say that Adgitize requires a bit more effort to be able to earn significantly. I earned a mere $0.36 this month because, well, I don't work hard for it.

Chitika - Chitika has introduced a new ad service targeting not just their usual Search Engine traffic, but a special "select traffic" not coming from Searches. I earned $1.24 this month.

Blogsvertise - I signed up for this last month and was greeted by an email saying my "Blog has little or no content and/or Blog is brand new and does not appear to be at least 30 days old." After reading their FAQ, it seems I might have to wait a bit before they come to their senses before I can properly earn from this service. :p I have a pending $2.00 payout from them still. Hello guys?

Blog4Reviews - I recently signed up for this website, a service recommended by another blogger friend. I have not heard from them yet, i.e. if my blog was accepted or not. Maybe they're on vacation too? Hehe.

Summarizing - Monetizing

In summary, my online earnings for 2010...
January 2010 = $9.28
February 2010 = $41.87
March 2010 = $15.02

I have changed my Jan and Feb earnings, some services update your actual earnings after a review.  In any case, I have now passively earned a total of $66.18 (roughly Php3,000) in 3 months. I have already doubled my target of $30 in 3 months, but do hope my earnings continue its uptrend!

Continuous learning

It is a continuing journey of trial and error, learning from successes and mistakes. Here are some more things I learned this month:
  • If you're planning on blogging and earning from global or national events, you should
    • (1) post your blog as soon as the event finished or, in the case of Board or Bar exam results, as soon as they are released.
    • (2) You should also do SEO optimization because you will be competing with them SEO experts for the top spot on those search engines!
  • It pays to monitor your monthly revenue and it pays to have a realistic target. I developed my target from a zero profit scenario - my cash out for my domain and some miscellaneous blogging cost. Anything I earned beyond my $10 is revenue. It's easy to see how much I'm actually earning and it doesn't take so much effort to monitor it (just some skills in MS Excel haha).

  1. Congrats Rey! My March income was generous too. I started tallying my earnings because I am inspired by DragonBlogger. I tallied a total of $38.30 for February.

Blog4Reviews contributed a lot in my earnings. Just wait for the reply, they'll surely give you something.

Blogvertise, based from experience, does not pay on time; good thing, they actually pay :)

  2. whoa, good work! I guess I wasn't exactly working as hard as you, which is why I earn practically nothing. hahaha!

  3. Wow, congratulations Sir Rey. Keep it up!

  4. Wow Rey, Congratz! Hope to earn that much soon!

  5. Congratulations on continually beating your $10 monthly goal. And here I get excited over a mere 7¢ jump one day on Adsense. lol I did manage $10 writing one article for Associated Content. I also signed up with Xomba, which is where my large Adsense jump came from. Ha! Love seeing the updates, btw. =)

  6. Hi Pao, it's OK to call me reyjr or Rey. ;)

  7. Hi @Anneonline! It's more like recreation than anything else. Haha.
Only a few months ago, I was exactly the same - getting excited for each centavo on Adsense. I'm sure you'll get there too. :)

Can you tell me a bit about Associated Content? Is it like Helium? How about Xomba?

  8. whew...dati naalala ko....$18 lang kita ko...sa smorty's pa un..at ngayon..bigla na lang silang nawala parang bula..kaya napabayaan ko site ko....pero gusto o talaga magsimula ulit...

  9. Associated Content looks to be similar to Helium. I have an account with Helium, but haven't written anything there as of yet. AC has some opportunities offering upfront payments, pay per view options, & a combination of the two. It doesn't seem as strict as Helium as I have seen blog posts from people who then write very similar articles on AC.

Xomba is new to me, but has been around since 1999. You can bookmark articles to share. With bookmarks you write a 50 word or more synopsis of the article/post you are linking to. You are paid through Google Adsense on a 50/50 split with Xomba. You can also write standalone articles which need to be at least 150 words. Same payment applies. You are also paid 10% of all referral earnings. These earnings come from what Xomba makes not your referral. I wrote a post about Xomba on my site [ http://anneonlife.com/2010/03/29/xomba-testing-1-2-3/ ], so did Sire [ http://wassupblog.com/getting-more-than-just-money-for-doing-the-xomba/ ]. I have yet to find anything negative, but it does take 6 months or more to really see anything from this effort and another 1-2 years to see regular monthly payouts from Adsense. Worth it if you are looking for additional streams of revenue and are planning on promoting your writing anyway.

  11. Congratulations Rey! Great job on reaching/exceeding your goal two months in a row. Wish you all the best and hope you continue to reach and exceed the goals you set for your blog. :D

  12. Sendo, ano yung Smorty's?
$18 in a month? OK yun ah.

Try mo ulit mag simula. Tip ko sa making money online, have a realistic goal and then do your best to exceed it. :) Hehe.

  13. Congrats, Sir Rey. Ahehehe. Keep on posting your progress and experiments on MMO. I hardly utter a beep, but I'm interested to know what works.

    ReplyDelete
  14. huwaw! ayos! balato naman. he he he.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Congrats on exceeding your goal. That's always fulfilling.

Regarding events, I suggest not to make a post after it is finished bit but rather prepare for it when it has not happened yet. That way, when it happens (and the event is hot), you're already on the search engines and people will flock your site.

That's how I make money online being a sports blogger.

  16. Aysus Lolo Jan. If you insist on calling me Sir, I will go and get myself knighted by the Queen of England. Hehehe. :p

It is interesting (bordering on obsessive) no? I'm not really after the millions, but would be interested to know how to do it. Hehe. Maybe we should ask Jehz? :p

    ReplyDelete
  17. Oh? He doesn't work anymore? (Well if I was earning millions from my blog I wouldn't either haha). I don't think I want to quit my job though. I like my job. :)

But an interview with Jehz? Talking about Making Money Online? That would be priceless! :p

    ReplyDelete
  18. An interview with Jehz will be nice. He has escaped the 9 to 5 grind and
earning very well. Isn't that the stuff of most part time bloggers' dream?
I bet that will be a hit interview. Go for it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Nice naman!

Congrats! Balato na rin... So Far sa Nuffnang lang po ako...

Nag eenjoy ako sa blogging... Okey na 'yun for me :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Really? Wow. Very interesting. Note to self: no more coffee tonight, baka lalo akong di makatulog nito. :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's $200+ pero mas mashoshock ka kung malalaman mong others made more than $1k!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey Richard, Kumusta na? Talagang bigay todo ka sa Nuffnang contests!
I think you're doing well for yourself - you have an iPhone to brag about! Hehe! :)

Ako din, not really after the money. Parang mas nakakatuwa lang na may challenge na ganito. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. woot woot! congrats, rey. di ko pa napost ung march earnings ko. dami ko inaayos sa blog ko eh. ui, san naka host tong blog mo?

    ReplyDelete
  24. uu mas malaki pag niche blog tapos online trends pa. woot. gawa ka ng ganung blog. ^^

    ReplyDelete
  25. inde....3 tasks lang un..i earned $18 from it...pay per post site din un..hehe..wala na sila ngayon T_T di ko nga alam kung san uli ako kikita haha

    ReplyDelete
  26. I seem to recall that - now that you told me. Ahahaha. I'm glad you're doing well. More reasons for Rey and I to watch you closely blogging-wise.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't know if you still remember it Jan but june of last year, you told me to get a dedicated server nung one time naubusan ako ng bandwidth. Then I told you na di ko kaya because I'm just a fledgling blogger kasi di ko alam paano imonetize ang site ko dahil almost sports-related mga posts ko.

Well now, wala pa rin akong dedicated server pero alam ko na how to make money online sa mga sports events. :-) Nakatulong din na I'm a big sports addict.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sir Rey is now seriously considering Lasik surgery. Dunno for sure, but perhaps your respectful "sir" and tone has swayed Rey to consider a more "youthful" look? LOL

    @Rey: Go for it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Actually, that's not $200 in a month but $200+ in one day alone. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ano yung online trends? Napapa isip nga ako gumawa ng ganun. I'm hardly a sports fanatic and do not have time to watch TV to write anything about shows and celebrities. Haha. How do you do it Fedhz??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hehe. If I looked any younger, you'd mistake me for a teenager!

@JanGeronimo - I was supposed to in April, but my April weekends are now fully booked, and May will be plant maintenance for the whole month. :( So I guess I'll have to plan it for June...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, you don't look old! Haha. I don't mean it that way. I'm just giving you some sort of respect. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I suggest you visit the Personal Category section of my web site.

    ReplyDelete
  34. No worries Pao. And thank you for the respect. Haha. ;)

It's funny I was at the Resorts World Casino recently (I don't gamble, but was in the neighborhood hehe) and I had a feeling I was going to be carded at any moment. Haha!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Of course! I'm glad to have inspired you even in a small way. Sana lahat tayo ma achieve ang blogging goals natin! Hehe!

Kumusta na buhay? Are you attending iBlog6?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Maraming salamat. I finished Guerilla Blogging last night. Interesting read. Made some adjustments already and plan to do more! :D

    ReplyDelete
  41. yup. doon ako sa 2nd day. For newbies. Like you, bihira rin makapagpost. Di ako magaling sa time management eh. (day job + family life + blogging) / time = ??

    ReplyDelete
  42. kung ano ung most searched sa isang particular day, or un nga sabi nung sports writer, unahan mo na kung ano ung magiging hot topic. like kunware, upcoming fights, or shows, mga ganun.

pwede din mga scandal or anything that interest the masses. diba sabi mo laki na kita mo kay pacman. parang ganun.

    ReplyDelete
  43. naku. wala din akong alam dun. si boylet nagaasikaso ng techie stuff sa blog ko. madiwara para sakin un. bale ung hosting, subscribe ka. meron monthly, may 1 year, 2 years. kahit ilan gusto mo. may mahal, may mura. depende sa kelangan ng blog mo. email mo me? hehe. habang explanation. ayaw ko naman i-blog kase di naman me magaling dun.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, you seem to have a good role of money making programs up there but it seems that surge was the flagship of your earnings for the month in question. Would seriously watch out for more of those "real time" surges as you are right, they can be a "killer" when it comes to monetization, specially for AdSense and Chitika. Chitika is really good if you have good organic traffic, otherwise it does not pay off much unless you actually use their other normal ad placements.

Anyway, it is still over your expectations so that is the right way to go. keep it up

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thank you my friend. I am trying to fight the urge to be greedy actually as I know that if I want more earnings, I'd need to spend more time on my blog. Time which I do not have, unfortunately Hehe.

    We'll see though. I'm optimistic!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Aba, see you then! I will be there on the 17th too.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Thanks for sharing and keep the good work up.
