Bloggers Invade Velocity Bar Marriott Hotel Manila!

I have not been to a party like this in a while, and so it was a welcome diversion to go to Manila on a weekday for some good music, free food and drinks, games and great company - it was Bloggers' Night at the Velocity Bar, Marriott Hotel Manila.

When my girlfriend Liz and I arrived, the party was already well under way, drinks were being served and a very appetizing cocktail spread greeted us. Our host, Michelle Garcia, Marketing Communications Manager at Marriott Hotel Manila, had prepared a few games and some freebies, and even set up a Wii console to provide for some R and R for the bloggers in attendance...

Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey results: Pacquiao victorious!

Manny Pacquiao victorious once again!

Last November, the world watched as Filipino super boxer Manny Pacquiao knocked out Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto - this time around, The Pacman defeats Ghana's Joshua Clottey in today's "The Event" held at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The WBO Welterweight belt is at stake for the bout.

Pacquiao entered the stadium wearing a red jumpsuit, smiling to cheers from the huge throng of people. Soraya Simons sang Ghana's National Anthem  and Journey singer, Filipino Arnel Pineda sang the Philippine National Anthem. 3 Dallas Cowboys in panty shorts sang the Star Spangled Banner. :p

Joshua Clottey entered the ring dancing in his silver and red robe, and Manny Pacquiao entered smiling in his Philippine Flag inspired robe of red, blue and yellow, to "Eye of the Tiger". Both looked relaxed...

My Self Indulgent Birthday Blog Post 28

Can you believe I'm turning 28? I almost cannot. Almost!
Here's some random ramblings and a few photos for your enjoyment. Lol.

I'm too old for this

Is it just me or have all 20-something-year-old's I know have fallen into a state of constantly thinking we are too old for anything fun. Staying out 'til 3am drinking and dancing doesn't sound too appealing to me, especially since I'd rather spend my weekends without a thumping hangover. I'm just too old to be drunk at a club at 3 in the morning...  OK OK It's probably just me. :p

Then I also said the same thing about Social Media and blogging - and I still feel that way sometimes. I'm too old for Facebook. I'm too old for Twitter. Doh. Just Friend or Follow me. :p

But even American Idol thinks I'm too old. Hehe. They have an age limit of 28.

The truth is, though, I am not too old for anything. YOU are not too old for anything. We should not be held back by those numbers, damn it! OK. I'm not too old to do a jumping / flying shot on the beach with my older sister who is also not to too old! :D

I was born at midnight

Random. I bet you didn't know I was born right at the stroke of midnight. Or well, at least that's what's written on my birth certificate. My mom says the clock they used as basis might (just might) have been a few minutes advanced. Hehehe.

I was a hyperactive kid. Exhibit A...

It is important to get your car insured

A few months ago, I blogged about the importance of getting an insurance policy for your vehicle.  It is imperative, especially with our unpredictable weather.

You can get insurance policies from your car dealers, they usually also have partner insurance services.  I processed the insurance policy of my car at the same car dealer and branch where I bought it. All you need to do is submit the necessary documentation to them and they will complete it for you.

If you're motorist from the State of Arizona, in the USA, with its long stretches of road, and harsh weather conditions, you should better get yourself an Arizona auto insurance .  I advise you to ask policies that include coverage for "Acts of God" - just in case. At least you'll be able to travel not worrying about that.

If you're going for cheap car insurance az, you can also check online for auto insurance rates az and other pertinent information about how to get insurance for your vehicles.

World's Largest Rodent Grossed me out

Have you ever seen that cutesy movie called Ratatouille? I had several tries before I was finally able to stomach watching a rat cooking food. I find whole concept revolting.

About a month ago, I caught this rat in our ceiling. It's a real rat. It gnawed a hole in my partition wall! Now can you imagine this rat moving around in your chef's hat? Cooking food in a fancy restaurant? That just makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand. Lol!

Think THAT's gross? Then you have to see this next photo...

"Earning 10 in 2010" - Feb 2010 Online Earnings update!

I've been known to be slightly obsessive, or to put it in light - highly determined - and so when I set that $10 a month goal for myself last month, I really focused on achieving it. (Hey no laughing at my measly earnings! Lol.) I am also writing about this to inspire my online and offline friends to also try and monetize their online interactions.

Earning 10 in 2010

I would describe myself as highly inexperienced in terms of anything and everything about earning on the internet.  I also feel terribly intimidated by the $200/month or $300/month (and even Php1 Million/month!) blog earnings being thrown around in the blogosphere by a lot of bloggers.  I have not really focused much on earning online through my blog or through Twitter - plus, I run a personal blog - not exactly a huge traffic blog, but now trying to earn a little bit to at least pay for my domain name and my internet connection sounds logical.

Now, $10 a month to me is more than sufficient - it covers my internet bills and my annual domain payments which together costs about $110.00/year. I feel going for higher than that would entail more effort than I can give and more time than I wish to provide for blogging. :p

January was slightly below target - $9.71, which at no effort, was actually quite optimistic. For February 2010 though, my monthly earnings shot up to over $40. I've exceeded my target! And I must say, it was quite exhilirating and sort of addicting haha! Where did it all come from? Read on...

Imagine yourself on a Luxury Cruise Ship...

Imagine yourself on a 10-day luxury Caribbean cruise...

You saved up all year for this, and now you're walking up the ramp to go on board - it's your first time and you're feeling a bit shy, but attempting to look confident. A gentleman in a dark suit greets you, "Welcome, Sir!" and hands you a glass of champagne. With a bubbly in one hand and your sunglasses in the other, you smile - the trip is off to a great start...

Remembering Paris

I was in Paris, France in November of 2004.

I remember the weather was nice despite it being so cold - I wasn't used to 7degC-at-noon days.  I remember the long French bread that sticks out of the paper bags of grocers, and the wonderful cobblestone roads.

I remember we stayed at probably the best aparment Paris can offer - not because it was extravagant or anything of the sort, but because it was with a very accommodating French lady lawyer called Marie. She was our gracious host during our stay in Paris.

Our Valentine weekend was really HOT!

Valentines Day 2010 brought Liz and I to the Clark Air Field in Pampanga for one really HOT weekend
_______________________________________________

The 15th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.

We were up bright and early on that sunny Valentines Day morning as we made our way through the streets of Clark Air Base. We had stayed at Hotel Stotsenberg for the evening after Duty Free Shopping and dinner at a grill and wine restaurant.  We got lost several times while looking for a dinner place there, and so we read the directions to the Fiesta venue carefully.  Thankfully we did not get lost again!

What the Shell Tax Issue is all about - the public deserves to know

Dear Friends, As some of you may know, I am an employee of Shell in the Philippines.  I would like to invite you to read through the article below about the position of Shell on the alleged non-payment of excise taxes worth $7.3 billion to the Bureau of Customs (BoC).

This issue obviously affects me personally (I am at risk of losing my job if the refinery closes down) but it also affects all of you. Fuel shortage will bring fuel prices up which will eventually cause other commodities to increase prices too.  Double taxation favors importers over manufacturers - if there are less factories, that means lesser job opportunities especially for new graduates.

I invite you to read the article below for your own sake, speak out your opinions - I will respect them.  If you have more questions or clarifications, you may ask it here and I will try my best to answer them for you...

---------------------- beginning of article ----------------------
*As published by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. in the February 16, 2010 issue of The Philippine Daily Inquirer (A-7) and The Philippine Star (A-11)

Recently, the public has heard of the issue regarding alleged non-payment by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) of excise taxes for imports of Catalytic Cracked Gasoline (CCG) and light catalytic cracked gasoline (LCCG), amounting to Php 7.35 billion for the years 2004-09. To correct the misleading, inaccurate and wrong statements that have been made regarding this case, PSPC would like to provide the public the facts of the case:

You can make money on the internet too - seriously!

I have a lot of "offline friends" who read this blog and are curious about how I get to earn through blogging. This is post is for you my friends, and all those newbie bloggers with personal blogs who are curious about how to make money on the internet.

You can make money on the internet with a personal blog

I am not the authority on stuff like "How to Monetize Your Blog" or "How to make money on the internet" - there are thousands of people who know that way better than me.  I will tell you instead my experience with it so far.

I have a personal blog, and in my one year of blogging, I've earned roughly around Php 2,500.00.  It's nothing to brag about, believe me, especially when other uber bloggers are earning as much as Php 1,000,000 ($20k) in one month on their blogs...
